I mean, I think I know more than that, but not by much. However, what I do know: how to throw a great gluten free, allergy friendly party and have super delicious snacks. This is something I’ve been doing for more than 15 years, and today I’ll be sharing great recipe ideas you can use for your gluten free Super Bowl side dishes and snacks. Throwback to 2012!! This was my first attempt at a football cake. Lots was learned. What Should I Eat While Watching Super Bowl Sunday? In my professional opinion: whatever makes you happy. Here’s the thing about food… sometimes we get so caught up in the idea of tradition that we miss out on the joy. If you don’t like traditional Super Bowl food, eat the foods that bring you a smile. As long as it’s safe and delicious, you’re winning. To jazz things up a bit, serve your football side dishes and snacks in festive plates and bowls. We have an old Wilton cake pan shaped like a football and I bring that out each year. Allergy Friendly Super Bowl Recipes It’s important to note that the term “allergy friendly” is an unregulated term, unlike gluten free or top 8 allergy free. The latter two have defined parameters. Allergy friendly usually means “what’s safe for me to eat” based on people we’ve talked to. It kind of cracks me up actually. Personally, the term allergy friendly means free-from 4+ major allergens, thus making it accessible to good amount of the food allergy community. To each his own. What you’ll need to do is, before your party, find out from your guests what their dietary restrictions are. In the best case scenario, everything you purchase or make will be safe for everyone… the ultimate for inclusion. In some cases, you’ll need to have items clearly labeled for who they’re for. For example, if I needed gluten free Super Bowl snacks for 3 guests (and they were only gluten free) and then top 8 allergy free Super Bowl snacks for 5 of the guests, and then anything you’d like for 8 people who have no restrictions… here’s what I’d do: A: Only make foods that are gluten free and top 8 allergy free. Or B: Create 3 areas for serving food. Each will be clearly labeled and have a different colour table cloth. The gluten free Super Bowl snacks would be in section one. When the gluten free guests arrive, I’d make sure they knew where their area was, and note the colour difference. I’d do the same for those who are top 8 allergy free, and those without restrictions.
