Bobo’s Protein Bar Review in 3 Flavours (GF, V, AF)

Bobo's Protein Bars in 3 Flavors by The Allergy Chef

As some of you may know, the kids enjoy the Bobo’s Toaster Pastries. Their other products have been hit and miss for us. Unfortunately, these protein bars were also a miss. For the price, I was really hoping the kids would enjoy them, but nope.

Interestingly, I purchased these at a store that specializes in free-from types of foods. Within a couple of months, these had been pulled from the shelves. It looks like they weren’t well received by many customers. YET! I have to have hope that some people like these because if not, how would they have passed Q&A trials to make it to production….

Also, if you’re purchasing this for a child, some of the packages were difficult for us to open, so you may need to pre-cut the package for them.

Now, something I want to point out, whilst these say gluten free, the oats on the label do not indicate gluten free oats. RAISE Members, be sure you’re logged in to view photos and additional details.

Bobo’s Gluten Free Banana Peanut Butter Protein Bar Review

The Papa: Needs more salt.

Kid Two: There’s something dry about this bar, but doesn’t need more salt in my opinion. I would be interested in the other flavours, but this one isn’t for me.

Kid Four: The banana tastes old, and not in a good way. There is an appropriate fruity taste. For me, the combination of flavours in this bar isn’t a good pair, and (in their defense) normally I wouldn’t eat the two together. Also, I agree with Kid Two, it’s too dry.

Bobo’s Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Protein Bar Review

The Papa: I’m the same as Kid Four, and totally agree on the bitter after taste. I think in the banana bar, the banana masks the aftertaste, whereas with the chocolate chip bar, there’s nowhere to hide.

Kid Two: This bar has a bitter after taste. In fact, I don’t like the aftertaste. The fore-taste is OK. I’d eat some of a bar if it were given to me, but I wouldn’t eat the whole bar.

(In my opinion, that says a lot if he’s not willing to eat the entire free bar).

Kid Three: I don’t like the taste of this bar. There’s a flavour… it’s not bland, but also not very good. I don’t know how to explain it. If were needing something to eat, I wouldn’t take this bar from my snack bin and I’d only eat this if I were starving.

Kid Four: This bar is not as bad as the banana bar, but it’s not necessarily good either. It’s alright I guess. It’s not something I’d ask for for my snack bin. However, I don’t not like it, and if you handed me one I’d eat it.

So, I think this interaction sums up this bar and the whole experience…

Kid Four: *takes a bite*
Kid Four: Very dry. Eh.
The Papa: Would you eat this?
Kid Four: Not on purpose.

Yeah, guys, I really wish I had something better to report to all of you.

Kid Two: There’s nothing exceptional about this bar. In fact, I son’t know what they were going for. There are several clashing flavours here and I just don’t like it. I mean, it’s probably nutritious since they’re calling out the amount of protein on the front and I want to be healthy. I just…. I can’t with this bar.

Kid Four: So it is dry… It’s not BAD, it’s just not good. I’d never be in the mood to eat this, but if I were starving, sure. Then I’d eat it.
