The kids have rejoiced! Gluten Free Vegan Oat Mix has an official recipe now. I’ve been making this for them since they were little, but we all know how bored I can get in the kitchen making the same thing too many times. They beg, I say I don’t feel like it, I tell them we make it too often (which is only true in my head). They offer to make it, I say there’s no recipe written down. The ratios are just all in my head. They walk away sad, then ask for Pineapple Pork Balls. Rinse and repeat.
Now, the tables have turned. One of the BEST things about the RAISE Platform is that I gave the kids a log in. I have NO regrets about this. Do you realize I NEVER have to make the same thing twice again if I don’t feel like it? Truly a victory. I encourage you all to have your kids look at the website with you and learn how to make the recipes. The independence it gives both kids and parents is AMAZING.
Back to Oat Mix. When we started making this recipe years ago, I used pre-packaged bags of granola made by Udi’s. The problem was the price. It was just so expensive and the mix didn’t last long. In addition to that, I felt like “I didn’t know how to make granola”… I know, it’s silly. A friend of ours who makes his own was laughing with me one day, like, you can make allllll these things and you don’t make granola? He told me what he likes to do at home and my eyes were opened.
Since then, homemade granola is really no big deal and we’ve been able to bring down the cost considerably. In today’s recipe, I’ve included some extra notes on cost, ways to save, and ways to make the recipe faster as well.
