Before we jump into the review, I have to talk about how frustrating this whole thing is. I found this new-to-us brand months ago and called them the same day. Left a message, never heard back. Of course I checked their website for the full details on allergens… not there.
Called again, and left another message. Sent an email. Left another phone message. AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS OF REACHING OUT GUESS WHO STILL HASN’T HEARD BACK?! Yup. I’m low-key pissed about it. It’s not just bad customer service, but like, come ON. I left several messages and emailed. This is unlike me to try this hard to get the deets and total radio silence from these guys. Don’t worry, totally planning to call them out on Instagram. Maybe then they’ll respond, but I won’t hold my breath.
Why I tried SO Hard to Get in Touch:
On the surface, this could be a safe product for someone allergic to corn. Additionally, there’s little to no sugar in this cereal. There are SO MANY pros about this cereal that it needs to be fully investigated so we know who can enjoy it.
Iwon Organics Gluten Free Protein Crunchies Cereal Review: Cinnamon
The Papa: It’s not bad. They have a good amount of cinnamon to cover that there’s so little sugar. With as little sugar that this cereal has, it’s surprisingly good. Here’s what you need to know: it’s edible and doesn’t taste like cardboard. I like cinnamon and I’m sitting and eating these right out of the box, so clearly they’re OK.
Kid Two: I find this cereal to be bland. Maybe it’s supposed to be that way?
Kid Three: Yeah, I’d agree, it’s bland, but it’s OK
Kid Four: It’s alright, but i’m not a cinnamon person, so maybe someone else would like it better.
Clearly THIS box is going to The Papa, and considering how good the ingredients are, I really don’t mind.
Iwon Organics Gluten Free Protein Crunchies Cereal Review: Berry
The Papa: This cereal tastes like the crunch berries in captain crunch. Yeah, these are GOOD.
Kid Two: I’m pretty sure this one is sweetened (we looked, it’s not, same amount as the cinnamon). Maybe they’re glazed, but they don’t give you a sugar rush. This cereal is something I could snack on from a baggie but I’d also eat it as a cereal with milk. It is kind of powdery, so I’d use a spoon when eating it from the baggie.
Kid Three: This cereal reminds me of either Trix or Captain Crunch, neither of which i’ve had in forever. Froot Loops maybe? I think that’s what it reminds me of. I like this berry cereal, it’s good.
Kid Four: *opens bag and proclaims: It smells so good!* I like this one! This cereal tastes familiar. It looks like there are two colours, and maybe they taste different. It does taste like fruit but also reminds me of… maybe a granola bar with a glaze that i’ve had and the glaze tasted like that. Overall, it has a great flavour and it’s sweetened. (HAHA, no more sweetened than the cinnamon dear children)
You MUST Know: They’re all giving a thumbs up and would legitimately eat bowls of this flavour. We’re all also impressed by how low the sugar is and how good the flavour is.
Iwon Organics Gluten Free Protein Crunchies Cereal Review: Chocolate
The Papa: Cinnamon was DEFINITELY cinnamon and this is not punch you in the face chocolate. Chocolate is my least fave of the three, and honestly, it doesn’t have a lot of flavour. I’d eat it, but maybe I’d enjoy it more with chocolate milk (which is a bunch of sugar, thus defeating the purpose).
Kid Two: This doesn’t taste of chocolate.
Kid Three: I like chocolate about as much as I liked the cinnamon. Berry was by far the best of the bunch. It’s chocolatey kind of, but it’s not like the regular chocolate cereals we buy. Koala Crisps are better than this chocolate cereal.
Kid Four: This doesn’t taste like chocolate, in fact it’s kind of flavourless. It also has a kind of weird taste. I’d eat it I guess, but there’s nothing to like or dislike.
Final Thoughts
We think this could be a good toddler food for texture and low sugar. The cinnamon will be eaten by The Papa and Kid Four has claimed the berry box for herself. Perhaps, just maybe I’ll buy those again, but given the price of the box AND their radio silence, who knows.
Kid Two has decided that he’ll stick to his normal cereal since they have yet to contact us back about the allergens. And THIS FOLKS this the exact reason why radio silence doesn’t work. Those who need the product won’t want to eat it if they don’t have all the details.
