An Introduction to EOE

EOE, some of us have heard the name, but what on earth does it mean? EOE is short for: Eosinophilic Esophagitis. EOE is a chronic immune condition that is related to inflammation of the esophagus. Common symptoms in children include reflux, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Common symptoms in adults include difficulty swallowing, heartburn, and the impaction of food. The diagnosis stage of EOE can take up to several months, as there are several tests, as well as the need to rule out other factors. It’s not uncommon for someone with severe food allergies to present as an EOE patient too.

The most common form of treatment for EOE is change in diet. The foods that are commonly eliminated are: wheat, dairy, egg, soy, nuts, and seafood… looks a lot like top 8 free. Some doctors also recommend eliminating chicken, beef, and corn as well.

There’s still a lot we don’t know about EOE (and allergies in general), but for now, managing what you eat is the best way to manage EOE symptoms. Below are links to resources you may find helpful.
