Today I’m sharing a new guide with you that’s near and dear to my heart. When it comes to supporting kids with food allergies, we as parents have a big job to do. This is a great guide if you have a child with Celiac Disease, or a child with any kind of dietary restriction.
I’ll be sharing tips, things you should and shouldn’t say, along with ways you can support your child and help them feel their best about their diagnosis.
Managing a child with a restricted diet comes with all sorts of unexpected situations, especially if you as a parent don’t have allergies yourself. Without a point of reference, it can be tough to know if we’re doing things right.
I want to leave you with this thought: no one is perfect. As parents of children with food allergies, Celiac Disease, and restricted diets, we can do “everything right” and still have an unhappy kid in the end. Well, not completely unhappy, but not 100% feeling like they fit in. That’s my personal experience with all of this.
I did SO MUCH for Kid Two to make sure he was always included, etc. etc., and asked him about it as an adult. He recognized everything I had done, and was grateful, but said there were still times he didn’t feel included.
Personality type and how socially skilled a kiddo is will have a role in this as well. However, I want to encourage you to do your best and be OK with that. Sometimes, our best is all we can offer, even if it’s not perfect.
