Choux Pastry, also known as Pâte à Choux, is a basic and versatile dough that’s used in traditional pastry. This dough is used to create churros, eclairs, profitroles, choux, chouquettes, pari-brest, croquembouche, and more. There are different variations you can make to the core recipe that can alter the final outcome of your treats as well. One of the key/critical ingredients in choux pastry is egg. You’ll notice that this recipe is gluten free, egg free, vegan, and top 9 allergy free.
Free-from choux pastry is not as versatile as a traditional (egg containing) recipe. For each type of treat you’d like to make, you have to alter your base recipe to behave appropriately. This is especially true of eclairs.
On the flip side, the GREAT news is that this gluten free recipe is easy to make, and the frying of your dough is also easy. Once you’ve made churros once, you’ll see how quickly they come together, and hopefully, you’ll also enjoy experimenting with different flavours profiles.
Before You Fry Your Gluten Free Churros
You’ll need to have a few tools on hand before making this recipe. Having a piping bag, sometimes called a pastry bag, is a must. You’re going to use this in combination with a star tip to get the traditional look of a churro. Make sure you also have paper towels and plenty of oil for frying. Finally, make sure you have toppings and/or dips. Sugar and cinnamon are the most common topping for churros. However, you can make anything your heart desires.
We recently made a yuzu glaze, raspberry white chocolate dip, and chocolate ganache for churros. They were all a hit!
